The
Top-Twenty
“These
three volumes are a chronicle of most of my musical meanderings
since The Bolshoi. In the name of St. Meandering, I have
preserved the original spirit of creative hubris and as
such, they are
presented here without sanitization, warts and all...," says
Tanner.
The lyrics to his incredible songs are in fact among the best
poetry as literature written for popular music, but he doesn't
let the lyrics do all the work.
Using
a wide vocal range, and playing special rhythms on acoustic
guitar with great precision, he is a wired kinetic performer,
jamming details between the
lines.
As
a musician, he is complete within himself. The kind of
player for whom the band seems almost an extravagance. Tanner slowly
evolves his largely instrumental songs that can whisper
and swell and chime, gradually moving between
delicacy and grandeur until the music becomes all-encompassing.”
