The lyrics to his incredible songs are in fact among the best poetry as literature written for popular music, but he doesn't let the lyrics do all the work.

Using a wide vocal range, and playing special rhythms on acoustic guitar with great precision, he is a wired kinetic performer, jamming details between the lines.
